Google Earth 🌎

If I had to choose a website that I enjoy doing any task it would be Google Earth https://www.google.cl/intl/es/earth. It is a geographic information system that brings together satellite images, aerial and data and computer models. In simple words it gives you a 3D image of planet earth where you click anywhere and it will take you to that area. In addition, one of the things I like the most, is that it has the Google Street View function, in which the system literally positions you in the place you choose, no longer seeing aerial photos, but with somewhat spherical photos that give the feeling of standing in place and being able to move through the streets.

Personally, I usually use this website when I forget to take the coordinates and the meters above sea level of some place, which is not so frequent. But apparently I will have to use it more often to make maps and demarcate places.

I recommend Google Earth to students who have forgotten to take geographic data from somewhere (it saved me in the herbarium) or people who just want to spend some time exploring different places on the planet and discovering different functions that this great website has to offer.

my favorite food

If you ask me about my favorite food, I could spend a whole day trying to decide, but for practical purposes I'll choose two: sopaipillas and lemos pie.

the first one is a salty fried dough made with pumpkin, it's one of the best things of the winter, you can eat them with whatever you want (except with manjar). i think i like them so much because the ones my aunt and my mom make are too delicious. it's probably not the healthiest because they are a fried dough, but i can't deny them.

Regarding the lemon pie, the combination of sour and sweet has been one of the best inventions in gastronomy. Besides, you only need condensed milk, lemon, eggs, sugar and decide how you will make the dough. 

I can't say why I like it so much, but it's already like an emblem for me, I could eat a whole one! although I don't know if my stomach would agree...

(One of) My favourite piece of technology

One of the devices that I think are indispensable for everyday life is the water heater, because who doesn't enjoy a hot shower after a cold and heavy day? This device heats water almost instantaneously, using energy from various sources, depending on whether it is an electric or gas device, and is used for various tasks such as heating, bathing or washing, in the case of domestic use.

In my case, I have one of the automatic gas type, which automatically turns on when I turn the water tap because it has batteries, which is more convenient than others in which you have to light the fire with matches or lighters so that it can work and heat the water. Although I do not know if it's my favorite technological device, I think it is a very innovative and highly recommended invention, as it saves having to heat the water in kettles and pots, every time you need to bathe or wash.

Why did I choose my major?

 

Ever since I was a kid, I always liked things related to science, I liked watching programs about animals and about space, plus I knew I didn't want to work in an office. So, I thought about a lot of careers before choosing forestry engineering. in high school, I knew I liked something related to biology, so I got into the biology elective, but I didn't like that it was only about human biology, so I ruled out a health career. In application week, I took our career into consideration on the last day and put it as my first choice along with the same at another university and environmental engineering. I was convinced that the major was about a little bit of everything, and I don't regret choosing it.

It has been a great experience in many areas to come to study in Santiago. Despite being homesick, I am very grateful for what the career has taught me, although it has been quite heavy. But one of the things I have liked the most is that I have been able to meet very cool people who make the days less difficult and brighter.

Sofía's biography

 Sofía Maturana was born in the city of San Fernando and lived in a nearby town called Agua Buena. She studied basic education in the rural school of the town called Abraham Lincoln. After 8th, she attended the high school in Colegio Inmaculada Concepción, where despite she doesn’t really liked the school, met her friends whom she loves very much. Now she lives with her aunt, uncle, brother, and cousins in Puente Alto, because she studies forestry engineering in Universidad de Chile in the town of the Pintana.

In Agua Buena, Sofía lives with her mom, dad, brothers, and grandma. She misses her family to much, especially her lovely mom, Lucy, without forgetting her pets: Galleta, Perrita café, Peluda, Gigi, Avatar, Watanabe, Mankeke, Eva, Kenai, Rayita, Frida, Donita, etc. 

Her hobbies are do sports, watch tv shows, go out with friends, and cook cakes. Two of things that she loves are travel and taste cheesecakes, kuchens and pies.
